New OS, new drivers, but bad benchmark! Is there a problem?

I just got a dell inspiron 1520 with pentium core duo 2.0ghz processor, nvidia geforce 8600gt 256megs, 2 gigs ram, running on vista.

I recently reinstalled vista with all the drivers that came with the machine. I just ran a benchmark test found on http://freestone-group.com/video-card-stability-test.htm and got TERRIBLE results!

According to this test, my system is running at 94 while the nvidia geforce 6600 gt is running at 880, sapphire radeon 9600 atlantis is 265, and nvidia geforce4 mx 440se is at 120!

Is there something wrong here?

benchmarks rely a lot on drivers and software configuration and OS stability. Slap on windows XP run your benchmarks, I bet they would make a difference.

i tried that. but because the video card is new, the only driver available for my videocard is in vista :(

But even with vista, how can my benchmark be this terrible?

the newest build was released less than a week ago, I am sure it works with XP. So you really wiped your drive and loaded XP on it?

Vista sucks right now for stable driver support so benchmarks may hurt, plus if your benchmark application is not optimized for vista it could also suffer. Update your benchmark software to the newest version.

yep. I did it yesterday. and just about pulled my hair out after it gave me the error message saying it can't install.

I'm gonna get 3dmark06 and see what numbers i get. thanks!
