Hello guys,

I am building a new pc from scratch for orchestral music production, video/photo editing and some games.
Here’s what I have got until now:

CPU
Ryzen 7 3700x

Cooling system
Noctua NH U12S

Motherboard
MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX

RAM
4x 16Gb – HyperX HX432C16PB3/16

Storage
Drive 1: Samsung 970 Evo 1Tb (OS, programs)
Drive 2: Samsung 860 EVO 1Tb (project files, videos)
Drive 3 and 4: 2x Samsung 860 EVO 1Tb (sample libraries)

GPU
RTX 2060 Super

Power supply
Chieftec 600w G80

Case
Phanteks p400

Monitor
I am used to working on a pair of 24" 1080p monitors. Now think about upgrading and choosing an ultrawide one. I found the Samsung C34H890, but I don't really know much about ultrawide monitors.

Any thoughts on this configuration?

Thank you for your time and have a great day!

Best,
spit

The stock cooler should be more than adequate, unless you're wanting something quieter.

Storage
Drive 1: Samsung 970 Evo 1Tb (OS, programs)
Drive 2: Samsung 860 EVO 1Tb (project files, videos)
Drive 3 and 4: 2x Samsung 860 EVO 1Tb (sample libraries)

I don't think it's necessary to have 4 separate drives. I'd opt for a 500GB or 1TB PCIe NVMe for OS and editing, and then use a second drive for storage. I'd personally avoid Samsung EVO drives unless you find a good deal or they're used; there are superior drives on the market for cheaper, if you're purchasing new.

Main drive - 1TB M.2 PCIe NVMe:

MyDigitalSSD BPX Pro
Addlink S70
WD Black SN750
Corsair MP510
HP EX920 or HP EX950
ADATA SX8200 or SX8200 Pro
Inland Premium
Kingston KC2000
Mushkin Pilot
Team MP34

Secondary - 2TB 2.5'' SATA:

MX500
860 EVO

Depending on how long you plan on keeping files, you could purchase a massive hard disk for long-term storage.

Hello OmniDyne,

Thank you for your answer!

Regarding the fan, I am looking for something quieter. Hereunder, please find an updated version of my setup.
Regarding the storage, you are right! I chose to go for the Corsair MP510 as it is more durable and cheaper that the 970 Evo Plus. As for the additional storage, I need around 3 To of storage for all the projects files and samples with a quick access to it > SSD needed.
I came to this final setup with a few modifications:

CPU
Ryzen 3700x OEM

CPU Cooler
Be Quiet Dark Rock Slim (I found it to have the best ratio price/quality and I am also looking for a quiet setup)

Motherboard
MSI x470 Gaming Pro Max (Plus version not available where I live)

GPU
As gaming is not my priority, I am willing to wait for new 3000-Gen Nvidia cards this year. So, I will take a second-hand R7 240 for the time being, just to be able to use a 1440p screen setup.

RAM
Crucial Ballistix Sport LT RED (BLS4K16G4D32AESE) (4x16Gb KIT)

Storage
- Corsair MP510 1To (OS, programs)
- 3x Samsung 860 EVO 1To (2x 1To being cheaper than 1x 2To)

Power supply
Corsair RM650x

Case
Be Quiet Pure Base 500 Window Grey

What do you think, OmniDyne?

Best,
spit

Hello OmniDyne,

Just a quick update about my configuration. Thank you for your help!

Finally, I decided to go without any GPU (just a GT730 while I am waiting for the new RTX 3000) and chose a Ryzen 3900x with an ASUS PRIME X570-P.

Have a great day and stay safe!

Best
