new PC for music production software

i am looking to buy a new PC for the sole purpose of running music production software (Cubase sx). I have a budget of roughly 400-450 pounds (about 700 dollars)

Can anyone recommend me a PC to buy?

Ideally it needs a very good processor and RAM, as production software uses a lot of CPU.

I have already purchased an EMU1212m soundcard, and am looking to also purchase an external hard drive as well.

Much appreciated

The processor isn't that good though. Will you be buidling or just buying a prebuilt?

am looking to buy a prebuilt. Forgot to mention that I am only interested in buying the base unit...have got monitor and keyboard already.

Thanks for the feedback

try looking at Mesh computers, believe they do base units only and although im sure a few people might slate them they still have a good rep in the uk

example there, under your budget and would then recommend using the extra to get a decent sound card, Creative Xi-Fi ideally but if thats a bit much then an Audigy (2 ZS or 4) would do the job

Also pop in a DVD-RW, mesh will prob pop one in for small price, if not then they are only bout £25 on ebuyer

Dude, you'd save a LOT of money if you built it yourself. That same Gateway comp, if you built it yourself, could cost maybe $100-$150 USD less. With a tight budget like you've got, you'd be able to get a MUCH better comp if you built it yourself rather than buy it prebuilt.

But that's just my $0.02 (two cents).

Pentium D is good... X2, FX, and P4 EE are all better but more money... i would get a Pentium D before i got a Athlon 64 or a Penium 4...
