New PC Problem

So I built my first PC, and everything was going seemingly fine until the boot up. All the fans are spinning and the lights on the motherboard are on, yet im getting nothing on my monitor. This being my 1st time building a computer, dont trust that I wired everything right ><. I've looked over all the manuals for my mobo/video card and everything seems plugged in. I am using a hard drive that I was using for my previous PC. I'm thinking that maybe this or a busted vid card are causing the problem? My motherboard USB ports also arent working and I havent tried any other ports. I dont have onboard video on this mobo so I cant unplug video card and check if its the cards fault. I'd appreciate any help or suggestions at all. Newegg is out of stock of the 9600gt I ordered so I'd have to wait a while if I wanted a replacement right? I was thinking if I have to replace I might as well return and get an 8800gts for the extra money.

Your hard drive with an OS on it is not going to just work with a different motherboard. You need to reinstall the OS on a new hard drive or the old one.
Is it a different motherboard?

Is that why the USB ports arent working then? Yes the 2 motherboards are completely different ><. I was playing around with my vid card to get it to work and since I use that little adapter so I can fit my monitor cable on the card I was wondering if thats the problem. Sure enough I tried it on my 5200fx ultra graphics card (the adapter) and it was also a blank monitor. Is the adapter the problem? or does my monitor have to support a certain thing for the adapter to work? Thanks for replying, was starting to think my thread was gonna get lost :) Will I have to wipe the HD in order to install the OS on the new mobo too?
