Got a new pc delivered from dell tried to set it up got most of the way then monitor went blank scratched my head for 10 mins cant remember if i switched it off with the button or pulled plug rang up dell guy said it was probably me pulling the plug out to early during installation so tried to install again from the partition that has factory reset image this had the same result so now its only an hour old and he talks me through installing the os again with discs provided which in its self is a pain as it writes over the hard disc so i lose the quick recovery function from partition which was one of the features that appealed to me when buying, and so we added the drivers etc switched the machine off to reboot and everyting looked at is it was going to work entered my password then the screen went blank the technician had put the phone down 30 seconds earler so he doesnt know yet,but i will tell hime tomorrow as he said he would ring to check up on it.
Ive looked on the net and this seems to be a massive problem with people installing vista and there monitors going blank,it seems to me as if dell are going to say its my fault for messing up the install but i dont think i have.
Have i got a leg to stand on it hasnt even been connected to the net yet as we didnt get that far even if its a vista problem i think dell should sort it out as it hadnt even got connected to the net and should be built to function.
could anyone tell me what i should do im very frustated and didnt expect to waste £330 in the space of a day and feel i shouldnt have to pay for it to be sent to dell to be sorted out and they might not even offer to do that

i should add this problem isnt common to dell it seems to effect lots of different computers

1) Why are you installing Vista. Didn't your Dell come with the O/S installed already?

2) If you didn't install the O/S properly - you can always put the disk back in and do it over again. I don't see how you could damage your PC - by installing software improperly.

3) I've never installed Vista - but it's just an operating system. I can't imagine it's any different than Windows 7 RC - or - XP - both of which I installed as a greenhorn - and just put the disk in the PC - boot from that disk drive and follow the directions.

I'd try installing the O/S again if I were you - but if you're having problems after that - I'd be inclined to think it's a hardware issue. You might want to open your PC case and check to make sure nothing came loose during shipping. I'd unplug it and make sure you have it on a hard surface - so you don't get any static electricity on the components.

As long as they walked you through the whole process, they should take responsibility for mucking it up, because it sounds like the pc was DOA.

I would be on the phone with Dell until the UPS guy showed up to get the pc...

What Bodaggit said. If it's a new PC - there is no reason they don't make it right for you. I'd be asking for a RMA - and send a new PC out. Did you purchase it online - or at a local retailer. EIther way - I'd want a new PC from Dell

Considering that you are talking to someone thousands of miles away that does not speak real good English, it is very hard to get a problem resolved correctly with Dell. Their customer service might be better once they start moving customer service and tech support back to America. I actually had to threaten to sue Dell before they finally replaced a DOA laptop rather than trying to repair the idiot thing a fourth time.........

Oh and if they do "agree" to replace your DOA computer, make sure that they are sending you a brand new computer, they tend to replace their "new" products with refurbished garbage computers that then need replacing. Some tech support..... LOL!

Another thing to do is to contact your Credit card company. When you are talking to DELL - tell them they need to resolve this issue - and document your correspondence. Let them know if they don't fix this - you're going to reverse the charges on your Credit Card and call the better business bureau on em. If the guy on the phone can't understand you - ask for his manager.

My advice is always the same in this situation. Send it back. Accept no less because a computer that has issues on day one will likely always have issues since the issues are hardware related.

Note about Dell tech support:
Free customer tech support is handled overseas (mostly in India).
Paid customer and business tech support is handled state side (in Texas mostly).
