New PC Problems

Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum so apologies for starting off with a question.

I've just bought all new parts to build a PC. I've built a few over the years but I'm by no means an expert. I plugged them all in and went to fire it up and all the fans etc work, the power light comes on, but there is no signal on the monitor. The system speaker doesn't beep like it normally would and the keyboard doesn't light up like you get when you first boot your PC. I'm trying to decide which component is faulty so I can send it back but I'm not sure. I'm guessing it's either the processor or the motherbaord but I don't want to send back one or the other to have them test it and find out there's nothing wrong with it.

Any ideas or advice would be very welcome. Thanks!

welcome to the forum!

hmm. it sounds like the motherboard is possibly bad. Can you give us the specs of the system?

I'm running:

AMD Dual Core 4200+
Asus MV2 Motherboard
1 GB Crucial DDR2 5300 RAM
PCI E 256 MB GFX Card
Seagate Baracuda 160 GB SATA HDD

No it doesn't seems to have a power connector on it. It's quite a budget card. Am I right in thinking that it's only the more recent and more powerful cards that require this?
