New PC wont boot

Ah! Just got the system and set it up.

Gigabyte DS3. Xclio Goodpower 500w. Core 2 Duo e6300.

For the life of me, I can't get it to turn on. When plugged in, the light on the back of the PSU is blinking. Nothing turns on or nor any of the fans seem to be spinning. I got the atx 12v and the 24pin put in.

Any thoughts guys?
Bad board?

p.s. the manual on the board said something about removing the small cover on the power connector on the motherboard before plugging in the power cord. That was if I was using the 24pin.

Are you getting any lights on the motherboard? Some mother boards have lights that are one when ever they have power even if there off. If you have those lights on the motherboard i would check to make sure you have the power switch put on the board right. also make sure everything is in nice and tight.

The light on the PSU is blinking? Is it consistent? I'd wonder if there's a problem with the PSU, or maybe a short somewhere... Have you tried another power supply on the system?

No I haven't tried another PSU. I don't have any other. Umm.. yes the light on the back isn't constant. It keeps blinking. When I fiddle or move the 24pin connector around, it seems to somewhat power the fans on and off. However, that seems only when I use it with 20 pins and take the extra 4 off. No sound or anything on the board.

If you have an ohmmeter check continuity in the power wire, sometimes they aren't connected right inside the connector.

you are sure everything is connected correctly? also, could you try the PSU from your old pc perhaps? because I have the feeling that your PSU is dead.

Could it be that the motherboard is grounded?
As in some part of the case is touching the metal part of the motherboard hence grounding it...

Wow, amazingly.. I just came back from purchasing a new PSU. I wish you were here earlier! :) It turns on now after I loosen the screws on the board.

Now, the cpu/heatsink fan... does that only spin once the cpu get's hot? Because it seems to stop and go and stop. The case fans themselves spin constantly.

Maybe you could get a refund from the store...
Sorry for being slow... :P My friends said the same thing too...
(I'm quite well-known here for my slowness... lol :D:D)

As for the CPU fan, I get the impression that it is suppose to turn on when the comp is on... maybe it is just spinning slowly so you can't hear the noise... just maybe :)

quite a few newer motherboards have fans that start spinning once the CPU gets hot enough, so you should be fine i beleive

If that is the case, then you should definitely get some software to monitor your comp temperature... I believe it was called SpeedFan... If the temp turns out to be high... then I would say the cable that connects the CPU fan to the motherboard might be loose... try to unplug the cable and plug it back in...

Hope im not too slow this time. :D:D:D

Yeah, I will return it eventually. As for the fan, how fast should it be spinning? My temps. are around 37C so I think that's normal.
