Ok so Ive gotta buy a new psu for my emachines computer.

Took one out of my relatives computer and it doesn't have the same amount of connections!

My one has a wire going from the psu to a second fan inside my computer.

What kind of psu do I need to get so that I have the option to have this fan working?

Many thanks.

Plus if I dont get a psu which has enough connections to make the fan work will this harm my pc?

When its "not the same amount of connections", do you mean you're missing a few molexes? If that's the case, just get a splitter, they're really cheap (a few bucks) and would allow the second fan inside your computer to work. Also check if there's a 3-pin motherboard fan connector available, if so, you can use that to power your fan.

That connection is totally optional, and shouldn't even come from your PSU... That is a power connection for a fan. Or sometimes power supplies have that plug just to see how fast the fan in the power supply is going, but again, it's totally optional.

Basically any PSU pushing about the same amps and watts should work fine unless there's some physical size requirement

But my original psu has a cable from the psu to a connection near another fan near my motherboard. So your saying this fan will work anyway?

a connection near another fan near your motherboard? So it's not on the motherboard or the fan...? I had a emachine powersupply, it had a 20pin connector, 4pin 12v connector, and a few molexes that it.

The three pin connection in question is only to allow the motherboard to monitor the speed of the PSU fan. It is not necessary, and the PSU will work perfectly without it.
