New RAM -- BSOD on Boot

I did a search and couldn't find anything relevant.

I bought 4GB of Corsair XMS2 memory to upgrade from 2GB Value Select memory. I placed the memory with no problems, but upon starting windows I get a BSOD (I don't remember the title from the error), but it said if you recently installed new hardware besure it's installed correctly.

I double checked that it's fitted correctly and the system Bios recognizes all 4GB. If you need any more info than I provided, please let me know.

The equipment:
Mobo: ASRock Penryn1600SLI-110dB
Processor: Intel C2D E6420
Memory: CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
Windows: Vista Ultimate 64bit

There have been issues MS has addressed for seeing errors in the 64bit editions when more then 2gb of memory is installed. That seems to be an ongoing problem for many running 3 or 4gb of DDR3 memory as well. MS released an update for all 64bit editions when a hardware change results in blue screens available at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...7C-614B-404C-850C-377541E93C18&displaylang=en

I will be replacing the present two 1gb dimms for a pair of 2gb dimms soon enough while running the 32bit version of Home Premium which should be interesting enough. The MS page for seeing problems when trying to install either 32 or 64bit editions with over 3gb on is seen at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=929777

That simply states that simply advises removing a 2gb if a pair of 2gb dimms are in or removing two 1gb dimms if four are installed to bring that down to 2gb until Windows is up and running there. The patch and the links for some others are seen at the link above.

Hopefully that will help out there. Do you have SP1 on yet? That may have another fix included in that for the problem.

Ok, no go. I tried swaping my old RAM out (that I've been using for a month) and the same thing occured. so now i can't even install the hot fix. I can go into safe mode just fine, but I can't run that update in safe mode.

I did download the newest drivers for my motherboard nForce 650i SLI and thought updating the RAM buss controller would have helped, but its seems not. If there's anything else anyone can think of, please let me know.

One thing I was considering as a possible problem would be having the voltage set above the 1.9v that memory runs on like 2-2.2v? Take a look in the bios to see if the setting is on auto or set to a higher then needed voltage by default.

It was set on auto, but I went ahead and manually set the voltage to 1.9. I don't know the difference with all the timing settings so I didn't mess with that.

Do you think a clean install of windows would help, it's not what I want to do, but if I can get the computer to work then what ever.

Thanx for all the help thus far PC eye.

The screen capture will help out with setting the dram timings manually so take notes. For the 4-4-4-14 timings seen on the memory here note the following seen in the capture below.

CAS Latency(CL) = 4
RAS to CAS Delay(tRCD) = 4
RAS Precharge(tRP) = 4
Clock Cycle(tRAS) =14

CPUz is showing I'm getting the proper timings already. I got it figured out. When I finally got to look at the BSOD is from AMD64LLD.dll and I had recenly installed a dual core optimizer from the Bioshock DVD. All I needed to do was run a system restore.

I do have one other thing but that will be in a different post.

O yell, it's fixed now. Thanx.
