New sata hdd makes system freeze

Hi all

This is my first post .I am facing a strange problem right now.
I installed a 160gb Seagate SATA HDD and using Seagate disc-wizard initialized and formatted it.
I can see it but can't copy or work on it.
My computer hangs when i try to copy say 50mb files into it.When i copy small files like 1 mb size it works but fails for large files...My computer freezes and i need to restart it .That is if the HDD activity on the new drive is even slightly heavy the computer hangs and fails to recover.

I dont think the problem here revolves around 48bit lba capability.I restricted ,by automatic procedure using Seagate disc-wizard ,the new drive size from 160 to 127 gb so that even if the system doesn't have that capability it could work with the new drive.

i formatted it to NTFS (and fat32 earlier..i exhausted all types)using Disc wizard and disk management tool too...Right now its in NTFS 4kB 127 gb state.

Pity my less knowledge of hardware but does wrong( may be i am wrong at setting these things) primary master slave settings have any such ill effects??
These are my settings:

Thanks

Have you tried Seagate Seatools on their website? It's a stand-alone diagnostic program that will tell you if anything is wrong with the drive. Try that perhaps?
