I have access to the internet so i know I have a connection through my NIC but I cannot access the server from client machines. This server is only used as a file server. I cannot Ping server form client machines
 
That doesn't tell us much. How are you, the clients, and the server all connected? Are all the computers connected to a single switch/router? If you are using different switches/routers/or WAP's, are they all using the same network and subnet address? Do you have all the computers on the same domain/workgroup? Also do you have file sharing enabled on the server?
