New SSD, can't fully download steam games on it?

Hello. I just installed a second SSD into my PC, but when I try to install steam games on it, they stop a little ways in and then the download is stuck at "stopping". I managed to install one game after clearing the CMOS, but I can't install more than that.

The SSD is a Samsung 850 PRO 512GB and it's plugged in via a Sata 6/gbs cable and power cable of course. Google shows no solutions..

Anyone have an idea on what I could do?

Also, when this happens my PC cant turn off. All the fans will keep spinning and the lights stay on until I hold the power button to turn it off.

Is this a fairly new computer? Did you build it yourself? You might want to think about tearing it down and rebuilding it.

That's quite the far end of the spectrum to go before at least a little troubleshooting.

Lago, when you got your SSD did you format it first? Did you format it as NTFS? How much storage space is available?

Sounds like a building/hardware issue when it won't shut down without pressing the power button.

I'd also make sure you set the appropriate RAM timings and similar (ideally via XMP). A lot of freezing situations can be attributed to improper timings/speed/voltage.

It won't shut down because Steam is stuck at "stopping", at least that was my interpretation.
No, thats not correct. He said the systems lights and fans stay on until he presses the power button. Has nothing to do with steam.

I'll attempt to reply to every comment.

This is a month old build, but the new SSD was put in yesterday. And I had help from a friend to build it.

Yes, I did format the SSD as NTFS and there is 476GB of storage on it.

RAM timings and such is set correctly.

I reset the CMOS yesterday after making this post and I have powered the PC on a few times since with no issues. However the SSD issue remains. When I try to install anything on the SSD the PC will "Hang" and not really respond to any actions.

Any more ideas?

Thanks a lot for your time and help!

We still need clarification. My interpretation was that Steam gets stuck at "stopping", so he tries to shut it down via Start > Shutdown, but the computer doesn't respond and stays up. Although if the display turns off but the lights and fans stay on, then yes I agree something else is up.

What you said is exactly what happens. The display turns off but everything else, including keyboard and mouse LEDS stay on. I have sent the SSD to RMA but the PC still acts odd on boot up, with the lights and fans turning on and off a few times before it fully boots..

Try this. Tear it down and rebuild it outside of the case on a piece of cardboard and see if it reacts correctly. If it does, then you have a grounding issue between motherboard and case.

Is there a video somewhere that can help me with this? My friend isn't able to help me for some time, and I don't think I can rebuild it myself.

You do it the same way outside of the case as inside but without using the case. You take any aspect of possible case grounding out of the picture doing it this way. So if you don't know how to build it inside case then I wouldn't attempt it outside of the case. You'll just have to wait.

I'm also wondering if the SSD is fine at this point. I would try it in a different system if possible before RMA'ing.
