New SSD to HHD and not overloading the SSD

Hi first time on this forum. So here goes. I have a AMD hexcore processor desktop with 8 gigs of DDR3 mem and a 1 gig DDR5 Vid card with a Western Digital Caviar Green 1.5 Tbite hard drive and Corsair force GT Sata3 120 Gig with Windows 7 Ultimate. My wife bought me the SSD for Christmas and I installed windows7 onto the drive and am running it as my C drive with a small 230 gig HHD as an old backup (which will be removed) and the 1500 gig drive as the D drive. My question is how do I install and use programs onto the HHD and use them without overloading the SSD. And have the programs show up on the desktop window. I have the HHD reformatted and several times I have installed new programs it never asked which drive to send it to. Plus is there a way to lock the SSD so it can't receive programs/data inadvertently.
Thanks Baird

If there's no option to install to a different location, then you cannot. Sometimes the program will hide it and there'll be a choice for a "custom" or "advanced" install. There you can change it to your HDD. There's nothing really to worry about unwanted programs/files getting onto your SSD. Just make sure you redirect your downloads to the HDD through your web browser.
