New SSD won't automaticly boot to windows

Just had my replacement SSD drive OCZ Agility 3. I installed Windows on it and it seemed to go fine, I then installed the drivers and formatted the HDD which also had a windows install on it.

Now when I attempt to boot with the SSD drive as first boot priority, I get a 'Please install correct boot media' message. But if I move windows boot manager as a first boot priority, I get a choice between 2 'Windows 7' options, When I select the top most option it boots using the SSD normally.

How come it won't just boot automaticly when the SSD drive is the first choice boot priority ?

I'm guessing there is some sort of corruption because I installed Windows on this new drive while my previous drive with windows was still installed.

I would imagine your boot files were on the HDD and since you formatted it, it will now no longer boot. Remove the hdd from the system and use the install cd to repair your existing install on the SSD.

Will try that now. Thanks for the quick response :D

That did nothing.
I can boot from the SSD no problem. But only if I elect windows boot manager as boot priority and I have to click on the windows 7 option from a list of 2.

I think all I can do is just reinstall windows with just the ssd connected.

Yeah your boot loader is messed up. I'm not sure if installing easybcd and configuring it load windows 7 as default would fix this or not, it might. Your only other option would be to reinstall 7 fresh on the ssd without the hdd plugged in.

I guess you have to register for the free version now.

Try this with the other drive disconnected.

Boot to the 7 DVD. Pick repair your computer. Pick Windows 7, click next. Pick Command Prompt. Enter bootrec.exe /fixmbr

Discovered the problem. A quick format in windows did not delete the hidden partitions on the HDD so it still had some boot data.

Can't believe I did not think about that :/ And I also went into the trouble of reinstalling Windows and everything!

Stupid thinking by me there

Just got the first BSOD with the OS installed on the SSD. Hopefully not one of many. This SSD business is doing my head in now.

I do not know what the BSOD was for however as the system restarted almost immediately and working fine so far.

I have located the mini dump file, but there is nothing in the folder. I probably need some sort of application to find it correct ?

I appreciate any sort of help, Thanks...

Download BlueScreenView
No installation required.
Unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

However, if there is nothing inside the minidump folder then you technically didn't have a bluescreen. Try bluescreen view and see what happens though.

The BSOD happened just after boot for a second then restarted to a 'start windows normally' screen and it was fine after that. I didn't get any time to read it but I did catch the bottom which did say it had dump files saved.

I'm away from the system at the moment and I'm catching up on some much needed sleep :P I'll try what you said in the morning, thanks again for the help :)
