New Suite Question

I just bought a Mcafees total protection 2007 and basicly it sucks. I am getting tons of error messages, the tech support is awful and their forum for the product is even worse. But im not here to rip on Mcafee. So here is my question.

I installed the suite on my desktop, which is less than 2 years old and was in perfect working condition and a brand new laptop. Both of which there are 3-4 error messages when you turn them on. But my wifes computer, which is about 2 months old, the software works fine.

So should I scrap it all together and purchase a different security suite or stick it out for a year until the subscription runs out and hope it clears up.

any suggestions or tips would be great

a few thoughts... do you get many viruses/trojans/malware, that your McAfee picks up? If not, I personally would stay away from the "Suite" software. The anti-virus packages now do spyware as well as viruses, and don't usually include the other junk, (software firewalls, intrusion detection.. etc..). If you have a router based firewall (which most dsl/cable/wireless routers do), use it not a software base one. Stay away from intrusion detection completely, (that's a corporate network security headache that these antivirus companies have convinced people they need for their home pc's (that's a load of ...), it just causes all sorts of complications unnecessarily. Like I said, use a router based firewall, and an antivirus program (not a suite). You'd do well to download spybot or something, and do a weekly scan with it as well, (they will usually catch things the major antivirus companies overlook).
