Hi guys.

Am new to this forum so, Hello :)

I' think ive finally decided on my what my build will be. Ive heared mixed reviews with i5 and i7 and hear there is not much difference to run fsx anyhow.

This is the system;

Case:Coolermaster 690 II Advanced
PSU: 650W Hale Modular NZXT
GPU: GeForce GTX 560Ti, 1gb.
CPU:Intel Core i5 2500k 3.3ghz overclocked to 4.5ghz (brought as a o'cd bundle from scan.co.uk, comes with warranty) scan.co.uk
Cooler: Corsair H60
Mobo: MSI P67A-G45 Intel P67 Chipset
RAM: 4gb DDR3 1600Mhz. Corsair.

Any views guys??

This is to run Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

FSX will make use of the 2600K hyperthreading however most other games wont. So if your main purpose is FSX the 2600K is the go.

but are you saying that the benefits of the 2600k justify the 100 buck or whatever it cost for you in euros, just for the one game, and then he'll only get a few more fps, 2500k should be more than enough.

I do not know if the 650W Hale Modular NZXT power supply unit is a good choice.

Take a look at this list of quality power supply manufacturers.

Good Quality Power Supplies:
Antec, Channelwell, Corsair, Delta, Enermax, PC Power & Cooling, SeaSonic, Silverstone, XFX, and Zalman

Okay Quality Power Supplies:
Mushkin, OCZ, Sparkle Power, Thermaltake, XClio

well they've got the 600watt corsair on sale for 10 off today and with its 20 buck mir it's 40, and that's still plenty for this, and if you wanted to sli or crossfire then you'd need a better one anyways, if you do want to sli or crossfire, then the 750watt corsair enthusiast series is 20 off today, so it's 100 and has a 15 buck mir so it'll be 85, pretty good deal.

Heyy i got well had the same PSU as you i got it from microcenter and it was a 700 watt for like 80 bucks. But anyways. yea it burnt on me like i was using my comp one day and it smelled like burning rubber and it got REALLY bad maybe even smoke so i found where it was coming from and it was the PSU. luckily i had 2 year microcenter replacement plan and its been like a year but yea they replaced it with the stealthxstream II. Hows your PSU holding up? any problems with it?

FSX eats quads mate and is extremely cpu intensive. Having owned a high end quad core Core 2 Quad OCd, and now the 2600K, i can tell you it makes a massive difference. This is where the 2600K comes into its own, in highly multi threaded apps, such as FSX, which is what the OPs original question was. Setting cpu affinity allows all 8 'cores' of FSX to be used.

But the OP appears to have purchased already, so it doesn't matter.

forgot he wanted to run that, when typing thought to mention that fsx used that many cores, but it's also like the only game, might be 1 or 2 others that you'll get a difference, but in the majority there will be no need, but i mean if you've got the money and all go for it, but if not it is wiser to get a better gpu than a 2600k over a 2500k, especially with ivy bridge coming and doesn't it use lga1155

Ivy bridge does use 1155, Sandy bridge E, uses LGA2011.

My OCZ StealthXStream OCZ600SXS Power Supply hasn't given me any problems yet. I owned it for a little over two years. I sent it in for replacement because I thought noise was coming from the fan inside the power supply. I was wrong. The sound was coming from a case fan that I pulled out and threw away. I got a good refurbished power supply though that has been running well for about 3 to 4 months and I doubt I am going to have any problems with it soon.
