just done a reboot and got a box up called SmartWebPrinting, says the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. It also says Click ok to try again (have done that) or enter an alternative path to a folder containing the installation package "SmartWebPrinting.msi" in the box below which says

have figured that in that list and asked to tick and have deleted has something to do with my printer which is why I get the message about Smart Web Printing

It was the HP software one and just because it has exe at the end doesn't mean it is malware

The HP software update has nothing to do with the smartweb printing. I've had users disable it with no bad effects. The update is an unnecessary program running at bootup and that's why I had you disable it.

What error number did you get when accessing windows update?

Go into internet options and click on the advanced tab, click the reset button to reset IE"s settings back to normal. Then go to the security tab and set all 4 zones back to default level. Now retry accessing windows update. You are using IE to access windows update correct?

sorry for the delay but I retried windows update after the computer had been shut down for the night and it worked, it has just finished installing Service Pack 3, just need to get rid of Smart Web Printing box then will make sure Windows update is definitely working properly :)

I did a search on Smart Web Printing and found the Hp site for it and have downloaded it, it's now fixed, thanks for all the help in getting the computer the way we want it, I know where to come if anything goes wrong, thanks again. :)
