My new 8800GT or its accompaning software is running the CPU at 100% for start up. I can do nothing at this stage and it lasts for as long as I leave it. Any ideas?

Boot into safe mode, tap the "f8" key continually after POST, choose safe mode from the menu. Once in safe mode, My Computer -> properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> expand "display adapter" -> right click the video card -> uninstall.

This is assuming the drivers are to blame. Once uninstalled, try booting up normally. If all is good, download driver from nvidia's website. (THIS is assuming the drivers were oringinally installed from the cd)

You or we might have a better idea of the situation if you could find which process causes your CPU to be stuck on 100%.

It is the Gamer OSD program that is causing problems. Is this needed or can I delete the program? I was told it clashes with vista???

I checked, it's a "Gamer utility". Real time OC'ing, a chat function. It's not needed, boot into safe mode and uninstall it.
