This is my current motherboard. It has worked great for 4-5 years now.

I wanted to know if I bought either of these 2 cards shown below:

would they work at all? I know your all going to say they wont perform at their max and the board doesn't support 16x 2.0 express but would it actually work and perform better than my current 8800 GTS 320MB card.

I know all the other draw backs to getting a new card for old board but I just want to know would either of them work for now to get better performance out of my PC.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!! :)

Yes, the cards will work. I believe that you would see an increase in performance as well. I would go with the 5850, but that is just my 2 cents. I am still learning the whole graphics card thing myself, so I will let a graphics card guru chime in on this.

(Just kidding, I'm not a video card guru :P)

Touching on the question "Will I see a performance gain?"

Yes. Pretty much all newer graphics cards are backwards compatible. Plus, if you buy a new motherboard sometime after, then you will have a pretty nice graphics processor to use at its full potential.

5870 for me. It seems like just the perfect card right now, and it's outrageously popular. It kind-of depends on what you want, despite how similar the cards are.
