New Windows 7 64bit BSOD

I just installed Windows 7 pro 64 bit. I had previously been running 32 bit with no blue screen problems. Upon installation of 64 bit I began getting BSOD seemingly whenever I was installing things and such. I ran prime 95 and it worked. I ran memtest and it worked. I need this computer for homework but I am stuck.

You must do a clean install going from the 32 bit to 64bit. You can't just upgrade. Did you do a clean install by deleting the partiitions and repartitioning then format and install windows?

I did do a clean install. I talked with somebody today and they said that it is due to me mixing corsair memory and pny.

It's possible but if you were using the same memory when had 32 bit installed and was working fine, then it should work fine in 64 bit.

How did you determine it was the processor?

I took it out and put my dual corein instead. And it worked fine. The guy I bought if from said it needed a voltage bump or it would bluescreen. I just don't think you can do that on my mobo, or I don't know how.

You overclock by going into the bios and change the settings from auto to manual and manual adjust. What motherboard do you have? Did the guy give you a voltage to adjust it to?

He said the ideal voltage was 1.125v. However, I don't think you can manualy change the voltage on my Mobo: http://206.108.48.60/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=370&tab=1

It only gives me the options +2%, 6% yada yada, unless I am missing something.

I recently got a seemingly better motherboard that I will pick up tomorrow. That probably will have the capabilities. I really hope I can get this quad core to work because my dual core is not as fast.

I checked the manual for your board and it only supports 3 options for cpu voltage, which isn't very good but its a cheap biostar motherboard so you can't expect much. What motherboard are you getting to replace it? Do you have a full retail OS install cd or OEM? IF OEM, you will need to buy a new OS.

Yea, I have a windows 7 disk. I can't recall what motherboard it is, I will pick it up tomorrow. It will have 4 slots for RAM. I have 3x 2gb sticks of ram, and 1x 512mb stick. Would you suggest putting them all in?

I would stick with 2 x 2gb sticks and if you feel you need more then get another 2 x 1gb so you stay in dual channel. Once you know the model of motherboard, let us know.

It should be fine with a passive heatsink. Might have a hard time finding one that the push pins line up. Could go with a heatsink that has a adhesive pad

I put the heatsink I found that fit on it, but it wouldn't display anything. Probably why it was free.

I put my biostar back in and played with the crappy voltage presets trying to get it to run stable. The closest I could get to the rumored to work 1.125v was 1.1v. I ran prime 95 for a bit and it BSODed again. So I got really frustrated and put my trusty AthlonII x2 250 back in and it runs like a charm. Not as fast as the quad core, but at least it doesn't BSOD.
