New with moding in general.Need help & info on ddr/ram.

I just got a Gateway E-4100 MDP.Pentium4 HT3Ghz 40gb hd.
Memory specs:
4slot(2case of 2)Max 1GB per slot(184pin dimm)
Max memory:4,096mb(4gb)
DDR Pc2700 & 3200
Ecc memory not compatable.
I currently have 250mb of ddr.Setup a antivirus/firewall & it slowed my computer alot.Was bit defender.So I thought upgrading this 1st would be best.Im geting the full 4gb.But I don't know much about ddr ram:confused:.What makes one so much more then the other with simalar specs?I want to get the best mem chips I can get.
 
wow is memory that expensive in the US? I got my corsair memory for $60 AU.

I've never actually heard of PQI, but G. Skill is one of the best, along with corsair and kingston, and OCZ
