New Workstation Build... What do ya think?

How do you use an computer to make an 500bhp monster?

Well the long story I could probably write a book on by the time I'm done. But this should give you an idea of why and how.
I have a 04 Toyota Tacoma that I previously had setup with about 300whp. It had all of the TRD addons like the roots-supercharger, 7th Injector Kit, Headers, cat-back exhaust, test-pipe, methanol/water injection, etc, etc. Unfortunately, no matter what I did to the existing system I wasn't going to be able to squeeze much more out of it. The supercharger was one of the main reasons why. First, it was a roots type, which are pretty inefficient at much more than 7 psi or so. Second, the supercharger body was integrated into the intake manifold as a one piece casting, so an intercooler was out.
So, I searched around to see what parts were available from other aftermarket companies.... NONE, zip, zilch nada. So, being in product development myself and having wanted to break into the race part industry for a while now, I decided to desing and build my own system.
I laser scanned all of the areas in my truck where I was going to design parts... I'm currently in the middle of translating those huge point-clouds into nurbs surfaces, so I can use them in my CAD modeling program. In the CAD mdeling program I'll be able to have the real volumes that my truck has inside the virtual space where I'll be designing the parts I need. For example, I'm designing a carbonfiber intake manifold that will need to mate properly with the engine, clear the hood, and I'll be able to see exactly how everything is going to fit inside of my computer before the first metal chip falls on the floor or the first fiber is laid.

Excellent Work.

When can we be expecting some of these Carbon-Fibre Intake Manifolds to be put on the Production Line?

I know what my computer wants too be when it grows up . . . THAT

Too bad it doesn work like that :(

Well I won't probably be going into production with these necessarily, but I might make a few on special order for people who really want them... I'm in school right now, so I'm not going to be going into production on anything at least till I'm out.

LOL, my computer DID grow up into this system, lol. The case, monitors, printer, peripherals, and some of the hard drives are from my last system...:)

I think you should change your thermaltakes around so the air is blowing out wards to back of case not to the front>??

My airflow is bottom to top, not front to back, because I felt it was best to work with convection... If this was a rackmount case then I would have had ALL of the fans blowing front to back. However I have it setup so cool air is blowing directly on the most critical areas... Two 80mm fans in the lower back blow cool air onto the CPUs and memory, two 80mm fans in the front blow cool air on the lower drive bay and one 120mm fan blows cool air on the upper drive bay. To pull the hot air out I have one 120mm fan on the top, two 80mm fans on the uppermost back (just above the PSU) and the PSU fan blows out as well. so that ends up being a pretty well balanced system considering that convection is helping pull the hot air to the top as well. I personally feel very confident in how I designed the airflow... However, IF I was to change anything, I would change the airflow and fan side of the front CPU such that the hot air from the back CPU was not getting sucked into it, but there isn't as much space on that side and pushing air through a sink is better than pulling, so that's how I'm probably going to keep it, unless I get a compelling reason to change it.

Hey, where did you buy that touch pad? And does the mouse that comes with it any good? I have a lot of trouble finding a decent one.

Thanks.

Just seen your set up....

That must be the "Mutt's Nuts" of a system I have seen.

From what you say you do it's no wonder it cost so much!

eBay! The mouse kinda sucks... I have the new model (Intuos3) on the way, so we'll see how that one does.

Alright thanks for the info, forgot to mention that you have a really nice setup! I was looking for something similar for the screens also, but I'll probably use 2x or 3x 22" LG's side by side instead.

And 500 WHP on your Tacoma? You on crack or something? :D Do you do offroad with it or is it just going to be for the streets?

I'm guessing you're going T or SC? I don't see you making 500 WHP N/A. :P More details!

If you'll read back through the posts, I detailed what I'm planning.

Hey PWScottIV, I found this pen pad.

http://www.wacom.com/bambootablet/bamboo.cfm

You can buy "Bamboo Fun" if you want it with a mouse, seems like a decent price for what you get and I'm checking out their website right now.
Do you know if it's any good?

I'm also checking out Intuos3 ones but they're a bit more pricy.

I just checked it out... Doesn't look nearly as nice as the Intuos3, but hey, if it works for you, then go for it. I have to say, that I've been less than pleased with Wacom tech support and the mouse on the Intuos2 is a big piece of crap.

Thanks for the quick response.

Hmmm, well the mouse is the least of my worries, because I probably will never use it. But, can you use another mouse while the pad is plugged? If not... ouch.

Also in terms of needs... probably just for some photoshop and flash. Although the Bamboo doesn't seem to have much place to move around.
