newb/novice Ram memory question

I have a Lenovo thinkcenter M series all-in-one computer that needs more Ram. It has 4 gigs and it seems to max out on certain websites causing poor performance.

My question is How do you determine what type of memory stick to buy for an upgrade? I watched a YouTube video on how to put a new stick in it. It looks pretty simple. But I tried to do this in the past on another computer a few years ago and I made a mess of things by putting the wrong memory stick in it. Thank you in advance.

If you can provide a full model number we can look up the type of RAM and the maximum capacity your specific system supports. The actual install is super simple once you have the correct product.

In addition to the model # if you need recommendations on RAM kits let us know what country/currency you shop from.

Some sites like Crucial have an upgrade tool:

It looks like 1600 DDR3 SODIMMs are what you're after, I'd use CPU-Z to find out what stick is in there currently (unless you wanted to open it up physically) and then buy something either exactingly similar, or that has similar specs for speed, latency and voltage. CPU-Z will also tell you if you already have both slots populated as opposed to a single 4G stick.

I know I'm late but you guys are quicker than me. lol thanks beers. but I was gathering this while you posted. I am in the USA I Louisiana Cajun country to be more specific. lol paint com.jpg

CPU-Z will actually get information off of the hardware for model, timing table, frequency, etc. System info as you can see simply just tells you about capacity.

This is right from Lenovo site for the M90z (Basically same type of ram chip that most laptops have , size-wise)

  • Supports 1GB, 2GB, 3GB, 4GB upto 10.0GB
  • 1066/1333MHz DDR3(Double Data Rate) dual channel memory support
  • PC3-8500 (1066MHz) memory supported
  • PC3-10600 (1333MHz) memory supported
  • Two 240-pin SoDIMM DDR3 SoDIMM sockets
You need to just determine if 1 or both slots are full, and maybe just buy a 4x4 kit and run a matching pair.

The links there show how to open, install, remove components for your machine!!

Also, here is what you most likely need.. $50 usd $1 shipping
