In the same class of processor, between 2.8 and 3.0 your not going to notice that much difference. In games with the same GPU it really depends on the game, but like above 200 mhz is not that much difference.

Its called the clock speed, are you asking why a 2.8ghz would be more expensive than a 3.0ghz? If so it has to do with how many cores it has, the more cores the more the computer can handle.

How many cores has nothing to do with his question. He is just really wanting to know if its worth paying extra for a 3.0ghz. processor over a cheaper 2.8ghz. processor.

*so if I want to compare between let's just say E8400 @3.0 Ghz C2D vs Q9550 @2.8Ghz which one is better for gaming?? or does it depends more on the GPU that we have??
*if a CPU supports a dual channel DDR2 RAM does that mean a DDR3 RAM won't work on it??

in that case, since most games out now will only use one or two cores, then the E8400 will be better. however we all speculate that in the near future more games will be able to use four or even more cores, then the quad will be better. however you can always overclock the quad, i think mine is running at 3.4, but you can also oc the dual to 3.6 on the same fsb. if the rest of your machine is kickass, then go for the quad. but the E8400 is pretty good cpu for recent and current games 
not sure about the ram, but i would say it does work, just not at the specified speed, provided it fits on the mobo

can a C2D last for the upcoming 2/3 years??I'm confuse on choosing a processor rite now... and I dun think I'm going to take i7series atm due to my budget restriction....
so if i buy a C2Q/C2D CPU and put DDR3 RAM will they work just fine?or it's better to use the DDR2??
and btw, about the OC things, will a processor OC itself when it's needed or shud we manually OC the CPU??

DDR3 ram will not work with socket 775 motherboard. Do you already have 775 motherboard or are you planning on buying one ? CPU can only downclock itself if it doesn't need all its potential so you save energy but if you want to get more of it then you will have to manually overclock it.

Um, what are you talking about? When LGA775 came out it supported DDR, then with proper chipsets supported DDR2, then DDR3 came out, and DDR3 chipsets and LGA775 supported it. Because the memory controller isnt on the processor like AMD, it's in the chipset. So a given CPU isnt bound to a specific memory type.

Yeah triple channel makes much more sense
If it needs two 3GHz cores then two 2.66GHz or 2.83GHz cores couldnt handle it as well, because games dont automatically utilize all the cores, the vast majority of games are single core, the majority (if not all) new releases are dual core, but quad core games are a rarity
