Newb SATA hard drive question

It's about time I get another hard drive. My computer was built before there were SATA hard drives. I was just wondering if my computer can still run them at all because I plan on upgrading this summer and will just wait until then to buy a new hard drive if I would need to buy a PATA hard drive again.

If your motherboard doesn't support it, then there's always the SATA to ATA adapters.

Then SATA controller cards...
