Can someone please recommend a mobo and cpu for me....I've decided to try and build my first computer and have searched but there are just too many options out there..
I mainly just use it for internet, downloading movies and songs, ect....I also want to have a hdmi port, build in or expandable. as it will be hooked up to a T.V. eventually.....
I am looking to spend between 100-160 bucks.

Thanks

Do you have the other parts already? If so makes and models pls.(including the tv)
If it's a couple parts here and there, then getting the ones that are universal and that have good prices atm may be the way to go. Or save and get it all at 1nc.

With that case:
The power supply is going to be inferior as ps's that come with cases are,(that's why it's only $50) and that runs a great risk of damaging the rest of the system. The ps is very important. There are other ways to save $. And more fans would have to be purchased since it only comes w/1, so that drives the price up.

If your going to purchase asap, then I'd suggest listing in detail (in the "Desktop" catagory) what you need (ie keyboard/mouse/monitor/os/etc)
Where you are, so members will know where you can buy from to help get you the best deals.
And the amount of your budget.
If not asap, then perhaps wait till your ready since the 'deals' fluctuate.

OK thanks.....The ps, is it inferior as far as wattage? It says 500....Or is it just a crappy model, wattage aside?

I'm not in a huge rush. Would like to keep the cost around 500 to 600 dollars.....

I can go buy one at abig box store for that with keyboard, mouse, and printer.....But I really want to build my own just to build one.....Not looking for anything too elaborate...

I was building my current computer in 08 and thought I was saving money by buying a 700W PS built by Volt(?) and spent only $30 for it. I basically wasted $30 and spent alot of time wondering why things weren't working. I am Lucky I didn't damage anything. I ended up spending about $100 for a 650W Antec PS.

Like tools you get what you pay for in Power Supplies. Look At brand names like Theraltake and Antec. Also the amount of Watts is completely different from the quality.

Just wanted to add, you can find wattage calculators that will give you a minimal amount of reliable wattage your system needs. Its not perfect, but it gets you in the ballpark. add 25% to the minimum wattage suggested to allow for future add-ons like fans, additional hard drives etc.

as a rule of thumb, anytime you buy something and something built in or added, means those components are outdated or inferior. Motherboards with video cards built in comes to mind. While the on board card may be adequate, you probably sacrificed a pcie slot.

The origional post was for a mobo abnd cpu around 150-160......I plan on spending around 500-600 for the whole set up......If I can't do that, then I will just get a package from a big box store....

I've read different reports...Some say there about the same, some say intel is better.....If there the same, I'm thinking of going with AMD.....

What is the problem with buying a $40 case and then adding fans and a good psu....

Hey check out www.newegg.com ; I've gotten a lot of great stuff from them; they're reliable and the prices are fantastic. They also have a lot of good reviews on their items, so you can easily see which ones are good, and which ones aren't as consistent.

I've never had luck with any motherboards other than ASUS. Unless you're going to put out over $200 for a motherboard, asus is the way to go; you can get one fitting your needs for $80-$100.

Also look into whether or not you want AMD or Intel processor. Depending on your needs, some people prefer one over the other. I've used both, and would say AMD + ASUS work best together. A nice Dual-Core CPU and ASUS board will play beautifully. :)

+1 for newegg. Asus boards are nice too, I loved my P5N-E SLI socket 775 board, that was kindly donated to me by another member here, minus the cost of postage.

I thank him every day for that, it got me into the computer world :D

You want AMD or Intel?

I was just going to ask that question. Its very important to know because allot of the components will depend on what type of Processor you want especially the motherboard. I would go for a AMD but that's just my opinion. I find AMD better, you get more for your buck.:good:

The first thing to do is to decide what brand of my parts it should be.. INTEL or AMD...?
i just want to share some idea that can be help..
AMD is for gaming... for graphics lover..
INTEL is for also for gaming but not good as AMD.. GOOD for office application.. and SERVER purposes ..
if ~INTEL~
INTEL corei3 processor
INTEL corei3 MOBO
RAM DDR3
VGA- its up to you..

if ~AMD~

AMD PHENOM II processor
AMD PHENOM II MOBO
RAM DDR3
VGA- its up to you.

intel is just as good as AMD is at gaming, and 90% of the time intel is better.AMD is a cheaper rout to go but gets the job done well, for alot less.you really cant tell the differents between the two gaming, but in benching intel pulls ahead in almost everyone. like the i5 760 beats out a x6 1090t in almost every benchmark, except in multithreaded apps.if money is no issue than get intel,if it is get amd.
