OK...my Plasma is a little older 720p and does not have DVI/VGA inputs. I am looking to buy Radeon HD 3450 256MB 64-bit (I rather have the 512 but seems to be sold out everywhere.) I have to get that b/c I have a HP slimline so my card has to be a low profile. This has a direct HDMI cable (Picture below)

Can I use my 720p Plasma as my computer screen through HDMI or will the quality be to poor to read fonts and other things. I've used S-Video before and the quality was just poor but I'm hoping the HDMI will be better? If there is a better card I'm open to ideas I just liked this one b/c of the direct HDMI but it needs to be low profile.

Thanks guys and I look forward to learning from this board

I use a 20' LCD HDTV as my monitor and it works great. I use a DVI -> HDMI cable. You should notice significant improvements with HDMI over S-Video.

As long as your using HDMI or DVI to HDMI, you should be fine. I know even though I can't get to the native resolution of my LCD TV, running at a standard 720p resolution over DVI to HDMI yields very acceptable results. It's not quite as sharp as my computers LCD, but you can certainly read small text without a problem.

You will notice a improvement in picture quality when you switch from S-Video to HDMI but don't expect the quality to match up againist "real" monitors - while many get close, don't expect reading fine print to be an easy job, though for most other tasks it's still fine.
