Greetings,
I am considering purchasing my first tablet. I am currently leaning toward the Samsung Galaxy Tablet 4 with 10.1" display simply because my past experiences with both Microsoft and Apple have been negative. I have never used the Android OS that comes pre-installed on it before and know nothing about it, other than it is developed by Google, Inc.
I was also looking at the Apple iPad air. However, they are, and always have been, proprietary and "closed-source" in both architecture and nature like Microsoft Windows.
However, I come from primarily a Microsoft Windows desktop background and just within the last two or three years I have switched over to using Linux for all my computing needs as it has finally matured to being usable for the average person in my humble opinion.
My question is this; if I have problems using the Android OS on the Samsung hardware (i.e. it becomes corrupted, unstable or starts crashing on me), will I be able to wipe the device clean and install a Linux distro of some kind on it and if so, which distro is compatible with it? I do not know the architecture of the Samsung Galaxy Tablet 4, because adverstisers don't seem to promote the architure on these newer devices for some reason.
I do know that certain Linux distro's such as Ubuntu and Fedora seem to be gradually making their distro's more "tablet friendly" and the newer Gnome desktop environment version already has tablet features integrated into it, as if the Linux community are planning future tablet distros. Thus I want to gear my present purchase toward any future switchover to Linux if it becomes necessary.
Just as a side, I am also looking at Ultrabooks and Netbooks as well (primarily from Asus) and would like to know how they compare to the above mentioned tablet(s)?
Thanks
