I just finished putting together the comp in my sig. When I turn it on it goes to the Asus screen, then to a screen that everything is ok then it goes to a blank screen with a blinking cursor in the top left and just sits there forever. Does this mean something?

Also sometimes when i turn off and turn on, the mobo beeps one long and two short beeps. But if I turn it off and back on again, its fine. I dunno

I need help

Thanks Trizoy

Ok the card is good now, but it is still freezing up. Even when i get into the Bios, the cursor just sits there and blinks. Its like my keyboard isnt working, but it lets me get into the bios my hitting del.

Have you tried putting in the OS cd you want to install? Or even a startup disc?

Does the blinking light have an a:/ before it? or c:/

I have the OS in the drive, but i cant get to it

I is just the _ cursor but its self blinking.

Do you ave the boot order defined? Cd-rom is the first boot device? then hd?

If that does not work, go to bootdisk.com and grab the win98 boot disk. Throw it on a 3.5mb disk, and start to dos. Partition and format the drive.

Another thing, you hd is Sata right? It is plugged into port0? Make sure that port is enabled in bios.

Yes the sata is shown in a quick screen before it freezes, ill have to try the win98, thanks.

ok now i think it is just a problem of the system freezing up a few seconds after i turn it on, i dunno.

try entering setup and then go to advanced and then boot order. if if still freezes then remove one stick of ram, if it still freezes then use the stick you removed instead

ok now when i try to install windows it come up with "the file xxx.xxx was not copied correctly" or "the setup could not copy the file: xxx.xxx" and it seems that everyother file copied does this and I can retry(which does nothing) or skip.

What does this mean?

at windows start up is asks me to partition the drive, now i deleted the previous one due to errors. Now should I set up windows xp on the unpartitioned space, or create a partition in the unpartitioned space?

how did you have the ram in? was it side by side or have 1 slot in betwenn?
make a new partition in the unused space. if you can reformat the whole drive and make a new partition

Well i took out one of the slots so I just have 512 in there could that b the problem because its dual channel. Because before when it was freezing I took out one of the stick and it worked fine then.
