Newbie needs Windows ME Software Advice

Hi there,

I have a rather old Sony Vaio laptop which is running on Windows ME.

I only want this laptop to be able to connect to the internet and because it doesnt have an ethernet port, PC World have just recommended that I buy a Wired Gigabit USB Network Adapter, to which I just have done.

Ive just tried to install it and it is now asking me to put in the original Windows ME CD to complete the driver installation but unbelievably I cant find the CD.

Can anyone advise what the next best step is please?

Ive just tried to see if I can buy another ME disk but main sites want nearly £100 and I dont really want to pay this when its only to connect now and again to my internet.

The laptop isnt wireless and it wouldnt seem to take a wireless adaptor previously (although thinking about it now, this may be because I dont have the original disk)

Im not the best technical minded when it comes to computers so hoping someone can advise me here.

Many Thanks in advance

Try installing the driver with the CD that came with the adapter instead. It probably just wants the ME disc to install a generic driver.

Hi,

I have tried that, it comes up with 2 pop ups saying 2 parts cant be installed and to insert ME disc that came with computer :(
