newbie with disk space troubles

Hello all,

I am new here, I am not a computer savvy type so please bear with me.

I have a Dell 4300 that has a 6GB hard drive, according to the stupid thing I am running low on space only 343MB left. I also have a D drive with almost 37GB of free space, I have tried to transfer some of the stuff from the C drive to the D drive in order to free up some space. As I am not computer wise I am failing to do anything right.

I have deleted things like Musicmatch, Real player, other music files, pictures, just make room.

to put it simply, i have no clue what i'm doing or need to do, can anyone help?

What OS are are you running? I assume it muct be on the smaller drive, c: If your secondary hard drive works, I would leave your OS on the first hard drive, c:, and put everything else on your secondary h/d, d: Start by deleting all your applications on C, and install them on D. This should leave a bit of space on your first drive.

You should have the install disk for your applications, like ms office, and that stuff. If you got your computer from a company, they should have given you a disk with applications that came pre-installed on your system. You will need to un-install these applications from your primary hard drive to free up space. Than you can re-install on them on you second hard rive (D:).

for programs yes reinstall them but just for your data, if you have any mp3s or video media usually takes alot of your space, you just have to compy and paste them... you may consider moving your "my documents" folder onto the large hard drive, depending on if you have alot in it that could help you alot. go to your my documents forlder right click it and select properties and then look to see how much space it is taking up. if its more than 300mbs i would move it.
