Hey ppl what's up? I have an eMachine computer that I bought at Wal-Mart for 600.00 dollars. The computer works okay, but every so often I have to run the restore disk because so many programs are added to my C: without my knowledge. I was wondering if any of you knew of any program that I could download that would keep my C: clean and my computer running at a fast pace with a high performance?

well... any kind of software program that i could use to get rid of the programs on my computer that are just randomly downloaded. i dont know if this happens to you or not but when i download programs from websites that i use... sometimes it links to another program that downloads and i dont want those linked programs on my computer.

so basically... i am trying to find a program that will completely rid my C: of those programs so that I only have the ones i am using on the drive. Also, i want as much free space as possible so my computer continues to run as a quick pace and doesnt spend tons of time loading...

any suggestions?

i've already tried that as well as clicking on the computer icon and deleting the actual folder that contains the program. also, i've download programs from www.download.com such as spyware doctor which seemed to do the trick at first. however after a while it started to restart my computer randomly, slow programs, and deny me access to the computer as far as getting to the welcome screen.

do you mean spyware doctor caused your computer to restart or the programs you are trying to get rid of did?

the computer did the whole random restart thing before i downloaded the program... but then it stopped for a while. then after i downloaded the spyware doctor program, it did it more frequently (3 times in a row on startup)

i had to go into safemode to try and configure some things, but that didnt help

i even checked the power cords to make sure there wasnt a bad connection, so idk what was up with that.

i just wanted to find a different program that i could download that will keep my computer clean and it's performance rate high

here's another ?... what if i choose the programs that i dont want running at startup but then delete the WinPatrol program... will those settings still take effect?

wow i dont know about that one. i just leave it running all the time. if you download a new program and it is configured to run as a startup program, it will ask you if you want it to run as a startup program. and it will also detect file type associations and ask if you want to keep them. its very handy.

hmm i see... sounds very sufficient

well i also do the same thing in keeping the computer running. a friend told me that if you have a connection like road runner or anything along those lines (something with a modem) that you should leave it on all the time because it's better for the system... so that's what i do now and it seems alot easier than turning it off everynight b4 i go to bed

what exactly is malware because ive never heard of it?

its like adware/spyware. There programs that get loaded onto your system without your knowledge (or by accidently clicking on something). You can usually get them from illegal download websites, pornographic sites, pop-ups, kazaa, limewire, and much more.

I would recommend getting a few programs that get rid of them, search www.download.com for Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, and Spysweeper.

what exactly do those programs do?

no offense but i just want some insight on them before i download them to my system
