Newly installed memory question

I had 2 512MB sticks of value ram, which I replaced with 3 1GB sticks of GSKILL ram. Before, it said I had 1022MB of ram, now it says I have 2790MB of ram. Is this correct? It's not exactly 3GB. I thought the 3 sticks I bought were identical, 2 were packaged and 1 was separate. They were:

G.SKILL Value 1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Desktop Memory - Retail

and

G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

why am I losing some MB of ram?

Do you have onboard video?
 
it might be caused by memory mapped I/O (try look it up). in a SLI setup, in a 32-bit environment, the usable amount of ram is usually below 3 GB
 
Also, do you really want your 3GB like that? since you have three sticks, then you lose dual channel.
 
It basically allows better system performance, it allows data to preform twice the normal rate. I say either get another stick (so long as your mobo can handle it) or take one out (for now).
