Next Operating System for me: XP or Vista?

Hello: The last time I purchased a new laptop was several years ago and I currently am running XP Pro. I have been fairly happy with this operating system other than a few HD crashes. I am ready to purchase a new laptop, but am really having a hard time deciding between Vista and XP. I have been waiting for several months for Vista SP1 to come out but now I am thinking that maybe I should give consideration to sticking with XP. Here is what I do with my laptop: Internet surfing, MS Word, some music and pics (basic stuff), Palm Pilot software (which is currently not compatible with Vista) and that is about it. I really do not use my machines for anything all that intense. The games that are played on my computer are for my kids which are in preschool. Thanks a bunch for any suggestions!!!

then a good ol copy of windows xp Pro SP2 will do you good.
If you want vista it depends which version you want, for home i suggest you go Home premium

I have windows vista i have it running fine it took my computer 2 hours to upgrade and if you want a new laptop you can still have the old one Networked.
Home premium is a very good version of vista i recommend it i think it is great.
Any probs reply!

i would say that xp would be best for you not because i dont like vista (it's growing on me) but for two reasons 1. your palm pilot software isn't currently compatible and 2. young childrens software tends to be somewhat pickey on the operating system on which it runs as sometimes they require older versions of flash and other related programs to run and some such programs aren't compatible with newer operating systems. I experienced that when i tried to run some high school math software on windows xp (all of the info is still relavent to the subjects as they don't really change) but unfrotunately it ran on an old version of quick time or flash or something that would only work on win 98. So thats my take on it anyway.

yeah, you could aways buy an upgrade version of win vista later if you decide that you want to go with that.
