Nexus 7 or netbook

I have been looking at the Nexus 7 and also a couple of Acer netbooks. It is for my wife when she goes to see her mother to get her e-mail and also show her mother pictures and videos of her great grandson quite a ways away from her. The netbooks are the 10.1" Acer for $ 228 and the 11.6 inch Acer that also has a webcam with it for $ 268. I was thinking they could also do Skype while she was up there.
Any suggestions? Walmart has the 10.1 inch Acer in stock and the 11.6 can be ordered through them and delivered to the store here.
 
Though I don't care for Acer very much, their netbooks aren't too bad. I'd say get the netbook as it would be much easier to use.
 
Thanks, my wife has used a laptop. We have a Compaq 15 inch that is about 4 years old, but it weighs more than 5 pounds and is pretty big. It also does not have a webcam. I guess I could buy a webcam, but that would make it even more cumbersome.
