Nikon D40x

I'm planning on getting the D40 some time in the future. The only difference from the D40to the D40X is the extra 4.1MP right?

I wouldn't buy the D40X since I don't think I'd ever print big pictures...

It looks like an amazing camera though! both of them!

the MP difference isnt the ONLY thing thats "upgraded" on the D40x, there are some minor details that were changed on it as well, not much though.

A friend of mine has the D40x an loves it, just make sure that if you want to be fairly "serious" about it, to get some nice lenses. In the world of Photography, the saying "you get what you pay for" is true... BUT, there are some occations when you can cut corners :)

But the D40 is still pretty good for beginners right?

Oh btw MBGraphics, did you take the pic on your avatar? I think I've seen it before on a "post your pic" kinda thread. :)

I really like my D40 over all... Photo quality is fine and the kit lens is decent. There are some other nice lenses avaliable for it. However, as you may have read around the internet, the D40(and D40x) lacks an internal focus servo. So unless you like manually focusing, you'll need to get lenses with this servo built in. There are some decent lenses for pretty cheap that work with this camera, but a good majority of them will not.

Well, I think my Canon Powershot A560 is a great camera!! I guess when I do get the D40 it would be like night and day wouldn't it??

Oh, so it's not just a point and shoot with an auto focus. Well damn.
I'm still setting my heart on getting it though so I can learn some better photography things and get a little more technical with cameras overall. Maybe I can find some lenses you were talking about that will auto focus for me.
