well my ma bought my dad a new gateway laptop
http://electronics.hsn.com/gateway-...0033&prev=hp!sf!dept!cat&ccm=ec|ec0027|ec0033

and i booted it up for the first time, enabled admin account went to remove norton and the screen shutoff

mind you its been on for maybe 30 minutes so i powered it off and powered on still nothing from the screen, but if i hook an external up everything appears fine on the external.

and gateway support is a joke, for one they dont understand what a blank black screen means, she kept saying well turn the laptop on and tell me what it shows.

but im wondering if im missing something ive tried fn functions and such and i cant see how enabling admin would disable the whole screen
ill take any ideas if not my ma is returning it

So you enabled the master admin account instead of using a regular user account? Thats a no no. The admin account is the backdoor into your system if anything happens to a regular account. Look in the documentation on how to restore your computer to factory condition and see if it works correctly.

ive always done this with no problems, because by default microsoft has it disabled and your user account all though it says admin doesnt have all the features, and the computer worked after enabling but i clicked control panel and the lcd shut off, but if i plug an hdmi cable into it and hook it into my tv everything works. im pretty sure its a faulty lcd.

Well, thats fine and dandy but what happens if the admin account gets all screwed up and you can't access your computer? You'll have to end up reformatting anyway. Just because nothing has happened yet, doesn't mean that it won't happen ever. I would rather be safe then sorry.

meh, im not worried about anything happening to it, but whats weird, is i decided to try it one more time before my ma packaged it up and sent it back and its working again so idk if just sitting overnight reset it but definitely never came across this problem before
