No Backlight on Laptop

Oblivion

Hey guys when i turn my lap top on it works and starts but the screen has no back light. I dont know if a connection came loose or what, or if the backlight can "burn out" i can see it if i concentrate real hard but otherwise i cant. Anyone got any ideas on how to fix it?

I've never heard of a backlight burning out, but the board powering it could... In most cases, it is simply a cable. I'd poke around inside for a bit checking everything's nice and tight. If it still won't work, you might just need to search around for a new LCD. Sometimes you can find the whole LCD/Case/etc and just swap your old one out.

i've had it happen to a client once, but i don't repair laptops(hardware)cos they're too time consuming for my liking. But he told me he had to buy a new backlight and apparently several different make/models of laptops use the same backlight but it was expensive and was only justified by the fact the laptop was a very expensive one to start with.

would it be a direct connecting plug that comes from the monitor? or could it be any random plug somewhere inside?

I don't quite get what you're asking... Quite obviously it's inside the laptop(unless you have a weird one with wires sticking out :P ) Sometimes it's a single ribbon, sometimes it's a ribbon and some wires. It all depends on the laptop and other accessories.

if its a sony vaio, i know that if u close the screen and put pressure where the end of the i on the vaio logo is, the backlight usually turns back on...

idk why though..
