No clue as to what's going on with my Network.

Here's my setup:

I've got a Modem and Router hardwired to my desktop downstairs. The router wasn't transmitting enough signal upstairs, so I purchased a Power-line Adapter (Comes with two adapters). I plugged in Adapter 1 directly to a plug downstairs, and hooked up a cat 5 from the router, into the Ethernet port on Adapter 1. In a room upstairs I hooked up Adapter 2 and plugged in a cat 5 from the laptop, into the Ethernet port on Adapter 2. I get internet.

My ideal setup (What I'm Trying To Do):

I want to transmit the signal wirelessly upstairs. I want to plug in a router into Adapter 2, rather than a laptop. I would like the router to distribute the signal wirelessly, while I plug my brothers xbox live into an Ethernet port on the router.
---

I plugged in an old router that I had lying around in upstairs into Adapter 2, and I created a new network called "Upstairs WiFi". I CAN connect to this WiFi from My laptop across the hall, my phone and my brothers laptop. But I am not getting any internet connection.

What could be the problem?

(And let me know if you need anymore information about my situation)

On the second router, you need to make sure the internal ip address is different from the first router. Also, disable dhcp on the second router.

so if the first router has an internal IP of 192.168.1.1 then make the second router 192.168.1.2. You also should reboot router2 after configurating it.

Edit: Also, do not plug the cable for second router into the internet port, it must be plugged into one of the 4 lan ports.

So from Adapter 2, plug a cable from the Port on the adapter to a LAN port on the router?

Awesome! That did it, just curious: Why did I have to disable DHCP?

Also, with the Network unsecured, the laptop connects fine. But with a pw of any kind over WPA/WPA2/WEP the laptop won't connect to the network. I know it's the laptop, because it's given me problems like this before.. any quick fix? Or should I just leave it unsecured?

The reason behind disabling dhcp on the second router is to allow router 1 to handle giving out all the ip addresses.

Yeah, some wireless cards have issues with certain security. If you can get it to connect using WEP or anything esle, just use it at that level. You can also try updating the driver to see if it would help with the security.
