hey,, i try to get a a qwik boot process all the time...so i chose to manually scan and everything...but a while ago (2yrs ago) a friend (he didnt know anything about comp.s) mentioned that w/ out a desktop background...the comp boots up faster. either way im not not going to add one, i like the simplicity of my slate blue background right now.

does setting up a plain background speed up boot times?
i also set my theme to windows classic, i'm running XP, does this make it load faster too?

just curious...thnx guys.

yeah using windows classic without all the fancy stuff gives you added performance but not boot time

Boottime, no.

Loading windows:

Go into msconfig and when it first comes up, choose selective startup. Make sure all the bottom boxes are selected (Leave the startup one the way it is). Then, go under the "Startup" tab and deselect anything that is unnecessary (qttask, iTunes Helper, misc. programs that don't need to startup when windows starts, etc.) Just be sure to check the file path and make sure it's not under windows/system 32. I usually leave all the windows ones alone if I don't know what they do.

Yes, disabling your background image won't have much affect on boot time but disabling startup tasks via the system configuration utility will as explained above.Just be careful not to disable important system startup tasks otherwise your pc will have problems.
