My friend computer was working fine with 800*600 resolution. He has pentium4, 2GHZ processor and 256 MB ram. No any external cards. Now monitor display is not working after i changed the resolution to 1024*768 screen resolution. Windows is loading first, then the power management frequency is display in black screen. What problem is this?. I did reset the lithium battery and changed load optimized default in bios settings. No use. What to do?. If i reinstall the computer, will it work?. Is there any solution for that?.

Try starting the pc in safe mode and re-setting the resolution from there
To get into safe mode tap the F8 button and then choose safe mode from the menu using your keyboard

Totally if i reinstall OS, will the problem solve?. And also can i set the 1024 width resolution in this configuration.

Before you re-install and lose all the data try the system restore
To get it i need to know what gpu you have and size of monitor

Ok clicl Start-- control panel--double click system-- click hardware tab --click device manager tab and see whats listed under display adaptors

you are probably exceeding the monitors display resolution, start from the absolute lowest resolution you can know works with it, and work your way up till it starts not liking it, if you have a second monitor that can work with the machine, take it, and pull the display resolution of the machine down.

otherwise press f8 and get into safe mode, and force the adapter down to its absolute lowest settings, then boot as per normal and adjust the settings

Thank you very much to all. I did set the screen resolution through "Enable VGA mode". Everything is ok now with 1024*768 screen resolution.
