No FireWire?

Hey everybody,
I just got all my parts to build my computer yesterday. My case has a front Firewire port, so I went to plug it into the Mobo, but there was no firewire connection on the motherboard. I would have thought all motherboards had FireWire capabilities. My motherboard is an ASUS P5GD1. FYI, I saw a little square on the motherboard that didn't have any male connectors, but it did say IEEE1394_2 under the square. I think that's really weird if I can't connect Firewire. Any help?
Thanks a lot,
Derek

I couldn't find anything about that mobo on the net. Not all machines today have firewire. Most people tend to go with USB(shame on you guys!) My new laptop, unfortunetly, doesn't have firewire... It's quite easy to add a card in if you really want firewire, but the majority of things use USB anymore. Now, if you do plan to have external drives, and you have the money, I do suggest going with Firewire drives. They are suppose to be about 20% faster than USB 2.0. Why do you think Firewire is also the prefered method for video editing ;P

Sorry, I meant the P5GD1. I might just get a firewire card to go in the PCI slots.
Thanks,
Derek

IEEE1394=firewire

Have you tried looknig in your asus motherboard manual. I have a different motherboard but it is ASUS. In my asus motherboard manual it has complete directions for connecting the IEE1394.

I tryed looking up your motherboard manual but the ASUS download site is tempoary not working right now.

I looked hard for the fire wire part of the manual, but no go...Oh well, I have a bigger problem now...I think I blew my PSU. It's under Cases and PSU's if you wanna check it out...
THanks guys,
Derek

The P5GD1 doesn't have firewire support (the chipset supports it but the board doesn't have the connection for it) the P5GD2 has the connections for it however. USB2 has a faster theoretical max speed but firewire still ends up performing better in sustained transfers.
