No folder options! WTH!

I was looking through my C drive the other day and found that there were folders missing like 'Local settings'. I realised that this was likely because they were set to 'hidden' so I went on control panel to change the folder options. But here's the thing, there is no icon called folder options in control panel, nor is there a folder options selection in the tools drop-down menu in explorer. My computer won't let me view my hidden folders even though I've got an admin account! I created a new admin account and sure enough, folder options was there, but I can't seem to get my account to have it. Please help, this is really annoying. I'm worried I'm going to set a folder to hidden and lose it forever because I can't see the damn thing! I'm running XP Pro SP2 btw.

ah, there is most likely a registry error with the NoFolderOptions flag

open regedit
go to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Pol icies\Explorer
change the variable NoFolderOptions to a 0

hkey_current_user... navigate to the rest of the folders by clicking on the (+) and then selecting the corresponding folders.

You're welcome. apj101 needs the credit. I just reposted his reply to my thread when I had the same problem.

ok , first open regedit. then go to HKCU_Current_User. Click on the (+) sign and go to the folder named Software. Click on the (+) sign again and go to the folder Microsoft.

Do the same till you reach the folder Policies. Then go to Explorer and click the Reg_Value named NoFolderOptions and double click. Change the value to 0. Close regedit

i think i figured it out, but, the only one to appear is:

nodrivetypeautorun

no others appear.

was this problem created by a virus??

could i have major problems with my registry?

No, something must have turned on that option. We cannot rule out the possiblity of a trojan as some of them decide to switch off folder options to hide files and disable the"Restore Default" option.

I didn't understand, have you solved your problem? If so, how did you do it?
I would like to know of an alternative to the same problem.

Ok, try this, make a new Reg_Value by the name NoFolderOptions in the same category and set it to 0.

I'm not sure if it will work, but then again, you never know;) Give it a shot.

i think i found the problem. it looks like the guy that setup my computer set it up to boot on drive e:

the folders are there on drive e:

i will contact him and see.

thanks.

it seems that the E: drive is the boot drive and that is why i could not find the folders on C:.

all is ok..
Ron

big thanks!!!
