No good trackballs around here.. looking for a mouse.

well... im thinking of getting a new mouse/trackball for my pc.. now,.. there arnt much trackballs around ( the only one that came close was the logitech trackman,.. but i didnt like the feel of it)
so now im thinking of going for a 'gaming' mouse.

I had a look at these.. and im wondering... is the difference between a normal optical mouse, and a laser mouse really that big?
also.. is the difference between 1600 dpi and 2000 dpi noticable?
and do you think getting such a mouse would be worth it, if you mainly use your pc for gaming?

would that also be a choice for gaming purposes? Sorry if these seem to be stupid questions.. but im really lost with this atm.

My current trackball has 4 buttons and a scroll wheel (wich can also be clicked, so 5 buttons)
and the 2 extra buttons on it, are very slim buttons, located laft and right of the main buttons.

now... i like to have additional buttons like that, since i would certainly use them.

also the looks matter to me,.. i have a G-15 keyboard at the moment, and i'd like my new mouse to fit in with it ( since its something you look at all the time.

Like said... im pretty lost at the moment.. so feel free to post other suggestions.

cmon... all suggestions are welcome.. i havnt even bought a mouse so far.. and i dont really know much about them either.. my budget for a mouse.. like $100 or so.. so it should be doable.
 
Well, the only trackball I really know about is the Logitech optical trackball mouse for like, $20. It's pretty good, still has four buttons in addition to the trackball...., but I honestly don't pay much attention to the trackballs..., never could get used to the feel of them :)!

As far as a gaming mouse, I have the MX1000 which I really love for the ergonomic feel, increased laser precision and rechargeable battery. The revolution looks similar with a few other tweaks, probably another very good choice. As for the Razers, as you've probably seen, many people on this site love them and would swear by them. I would think that if you choose any one of those, you would be just fine... :)

so basicly any of those would be a good choice? damn.. that doesnt get me anywhere.. :( i can't choose XD

ofcourse i could get them all, put a few USB hubs on my pc,.. and tadaaa... but that would leave my desk a bit messy i guess... =']
but if they are all good.. could you help me picking one? i really cant decide :x
 
Well, my friend bought a copperhead (green) recently on woot.com for 40$ USD. I used it, and it's good, but personally I find it a little light (and not mac compatible!) When I went to bestbuy the other day, I saw that they had on display mice that I just HAD to try. The G7 felt good, but still a little light and (sigh) wireless. I just don't like to take the risk :)(Although you'll see i did, and it turned out AWESOME!!!). Oh, and I tried the G5, but it didnt catch my interest, although the weights are cool... But then the heaven's opened up and shined a bright beam of light on the next mouse, the MX Revolution. (That's not "exactly" how it happened, but you get the jist...) THIS THING IS SUPER COMFRTABLE, HAS LIKE 7 BUTTONS, 2 SCROOL WHEELS (NOT CLICK) AND HAS A GOOD WEIGHT TO IT!!!! Luckly, my friend, the same one who bought the copperhead, works at best by, and I picked it up trough him for 78$. It has something like 2000dpi and I think it said it can go to 2500. AWESOME! AND IT'S MAC COMPATIBLE!!!! WOOO HOOO!!!!!! (Once I get of my a$$ and build a new p.c. this will be the SHIZNITZ for CSS AND CZ!!!!!)

Also, I use the Logitec MX4000 Lazser, it's not made specifically for gaming, but has 4 button's, 1600DPI, and a tilt wheel, GREAT for WC3+DotA (Oh, but the mx revo is BETTER!!!!!)

the revolution only has 800dpi.. ;) but its very accurate according to the reviews

The two models that Microsoft had out in trackball form are the Trackball Optical and the Trackball Explorer. And those cost far less then $100. Im using the MS Trackball optical atm.. its the 2nd one i had,.. but they arn't sold anymore here. and i dont really feel like shipping them from somewhere not close ;)

as for the spaceball... $400 is quite cheap.. its no mouse, but its a tool to zoom, turn ans scroll in CAD drawings really fast ( very cool for the 3d drawings)
 
Don't feel bad about not seeing the Trackball Optical or Trackball Explorer in a place you can order either from. Microsoft no longer carries either model. You would have to go to a place like Amazon.com or EBay for those now. :(

I'm glad I bought a spare along with the one in use now. The enamel is starting to show signs of wear after all of that SOF2 and HL2 action. :P
 
I'd recommend the Copperhead. The blue lighting on it wil match your keyboard. Also, there are a decent amount of options for you to tweak as well as 5 different profile settings you can make. It slides really easily on my Steelpad 5L with the teflon feet.
 
I used to have the MX510, MX518, and G5. Out of those, my favorite would have to be the MX510 because it was comfortable, had two side buttons, and didnt have those annoying sensitivity controls on it. What I dislike about those controls is that out of the box, it seems either too slow or too fast, and you need to go into the windows control panel to slow it down.

Honestly, I prefer my current Microsoft Optical ($10) mouse to the G5, anyday.
 
The Microsoft Optical models are nowhere as flimsy as a number of brands. You wouldn't believe the original retail tag on the Trackball Explorer I mentioned earlier.
