No input signal

hi, i built a pc and after building the machine, the only monitor i had to test with was an old tft which uses vga. So i used an adaptor to connect it to the bfg 8600gt that is in this build and when i turn it on, i get nothing on the screen, just "No input signal"

The graphics card is connected to an ocz power supply with a 6 pin power connecter, although there are 2 connectors, one is just a 6 pin labeled "pcie" and the other has the same 6 pin with a 2 pin attached to it, this is labeled "pcie2"

Im getting power to the graphics card, the fan on it is spinning, as are there system fans and the processor fan, the hard disk is spinning and is connected using sata cables and sata power cables.

When connecting the power supply to the motherboard, i connected the long psu cable, and it had an extra 4 pin which i presume goes next to it, in the remaining holes. But i have a 4pin near the cpu which says "atx12v" and i dont have another cable that fits that?

Any ideas?

The 4pin motherboard connector is usually just a extra +12v rail for CPU usage. I don't see it being the problem, with the CPU @ idle it shouldn't be drawing much power at all.

New computer combined with no POST can stem from a shitload of possible problems. You suspect the monitor or VGA firstly. If you have onboard try getting a display through that, or any other output ports on the card, on the same track, an older problem resulted in the motherboard ignoring a dedicated card defaulting the display stream to the onboard video. You can disable the onboard vid. in the BIOS.

Have you attempted to clear the CMOS/BIOS? There should/might be a Jumper next to the CMOS battery, switch that and/or pull out the battery, unplug the PSU cord and hit the case power button for a couple sec. to cycle the power out.

Make sure both the vid. card and RAM are seated properly (connect and reconnect everything to be thorough). Pull out the RAM and test individual stick in different slots. Try taking all the RAM out and see if anything different happens.

Is the internal speaker hooked up? Do you hear any beep codes? If you don't it might point towards hardware, particularly motherboard, failure.
