New Member
Computer of a friend cannot access the internet either with cable or usb wireless adapter. I can only install HJT in safe mode and log is below.
Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

Please boot into normal mode and do a hijackthis scan and save a logfile. If you can only access internet in safe mode then boot into safe mode and copy and paste the log back here.

Also do this. Open hijackthis, this time click on "open misc tools section", click on "open uninstall manager", click on "save list". In your next reply I need to see new hijackthis log in normal mode and the list of what is installed on your computer.

I have a feeling you have something installed that is blocking internet access.
 
cannot access internet underany curcumstances and can only install or run HJThis in safe mode. I will have another go and get back.

Can you download Malwarebytes Antimalware here and post the log from it.

I looked through your installed programs and don't see anything that would cause inability to access the internet.

When did this problem occur? Was software recently installed, perhaps a firewall? Have you tried doing a system restore back to when it was working?
 
Can't install malwarebytes in safe or full mode. No new progs installed and restore was not running.

According to your hijackthis log, it looks like you are infected. Without being able to download and install malware programs, I'm not sure what you can do. Sometimes the only way I can work on systems is to actually take the hard drive out of the infected computer and slave it to mine and run scans on it that way until you can run stuff from original drive and then do more scans. Can you slave it to another system and scan it with the free version of AVG? If not, i'll have to hand you over to someone else, he won't be on until later tonight though.
 
My computer too small to take another drive but I do have an external caddy - would that allow me to scan?
 
If you have all the connectors to hook it up properly, yes. If not, do you have a friends computer you can use?
 
different type of drive to my caddy so no can do. I'm stumped for the present. I don't want to reformat unless really last resort. Are there update files for avg I can add to the infected computer?
 
got fed up and reformatted drive - seems to be working ok. Used my computer to run hard drive in infected computer AND GOT SAME PROB of not being ale to access internet!! Had to reformat my computer as well. Bloody hell.
Still do not know what the issue was.
