No Operating System found

My friend was working on her PC when someone working around the house, shut off the power without letting her know and now when she tries to start it up it says "No Operating system found." What can we do about this? She doesn't have her windows cd. She was using windows 2000.

can't you just reinstall a copy of windows 2000 onto the computer?

Make sure there isn't a floppy disk in the floppy disk drive.

I would suggest entering the BIOS and checking that the hard drive with the OS on it is being recognised, and that the boot sequence is correct.

Try take out her hdd and put it on another pc and see if the os is still there. There is no way that a power failure can erase the hdd. If the os run fine on another pc then something has fried in the old pc.

That will only work if you plug it into the same motherboard model. You can't just swap OS hard drives back and forth, there are drivers which are motherboard specific, and will cause boot faliure anyway.
