hi, i have a hpdc7100 desktop and i was in the middle of changing the case that the motherboard is in , i then happen to accedentaly put a small scratch on the back of the board were all of the circuits come off from the cpu. now i took no notice of this really and just turned it on, but instead of it booting up it beeped 9 times and the power led flashed 9 times. now i have worked out that this is called "wrong power supply voltage" .now would this scratch cause this and if not then is there another thing that could be causing it . i have already tried a second power supply.

You most likely have damaged the board by damaging the circuits. You've really got to be careful when changing components.

after a bit more testing i have found that if i dont have the 4 pin plugged in then i only get a 5 beep error which means power supply failed, but when i plug it in then i get the 9 beeps meaning incorrect voltage

If you have already tried a different power supply, then you have damaged the board. You can try resetting the cmos by removing the cmos battery for a few minutes and see if that does anything but I doubt it.

is there not a way to repair it maybe my puting something in to fill the scratch up and act as an insulator between any possible short circuits.

i say this because i dont believe that the tacks are broken, they only need to be insulated from each other to make the circuit complete

When you changed the case out are you sure you put the standoffs in all the right places. Like one where its not suppost to be and grounding out on the bottom of the board.
