No response from cooling fans...

How did I get my cooling fans working? Am I missing a program that controls them. I downloaded speed fan and I'm getting 0rpm. HD is at 56*C Temp1 is at 73*C. I already have my laptop lifted about a inch off my desk. Need to get this thing cooled down.

Check to ensure that all fans are clear of dust and what not. If that doesn't work you could try the manufacturer website and see if they have a bios update for your computer. I know on my gateway i flashed the bios and now the cooling fans act a lot different. They used to just come on and stay on, but now once they've cooled the pc off they will shut back off. So it could have been a glitch in the original bios.

If all of that fails, then take it to a repair shop or call the company.

I bought a cooling pad for it and now it's running alot cooler.

Yes, it does. This is provided that the book is not covering the whole bottom of the computer and is not covering any vents.

Anything with moving parts: that includes the fans, will wear out. The bearings mustv'e gone. Just open up your laptop and replace the fan with an identical part. Don't be afraid to open up a laptop--you can do it! I've seen engineers not wanting to even touch the innards of a laptop. It's not so bad.

Now, make sure that you get this fan in pronto. Laptops are like cooktops, in matter of fact, my aunt one day was going to use her laptop to fry hamburgers! Processors will die if they are not cooled down to their optimal temps.

umm, no it doesn't. as long as your vents aren't blocked it's always gonna suck the same amount of air through. lifting it higher up is pointless.
