I just built my computer and I put in a PCI express video card. A screen wont show up on the monitor. Is it because I need to use an AGP slot on my Asus A8N motherboard?

What model is the card? What model is the Motherboard?

Does the PC make any noises when you turn it on... like a series of BEEPs?

The card i believe is a voodoo 5 and the motherboard is Asus A8V Delux. And no it doesnt make a series of beeps

Ok. What DOES happen when you turn the power on to the PC?
Do the HD & Power lights come?
Can you hear the HDD spin up?

Also, does your monitor have 2 inputs? if so have you got the correct input selected(HD15/VGA/ANALOG)?

Everything works fine when i turn on computer. Both dvd drives and hardrives work fine. I just dont get anything on the screen. And what do u mean by inputs on the monitor

Does the monitor have 2 options for input signals..... VGA/Analog(HD15...3rows x 5pins) or DVI/Digital(DVI...usualy white with 3rows x 8pins.... used when connecting as a second/slave screen).

If you have both of these connectors on the monitor then you need to make sure that you tell the monitor what connector to look at for the signal. There will be a button or option in the monitors menu to select which input.

The card i believe is a voodoo 5

This is a PCI card not PCI Express.

Enter your bios and make sure it's set to use the pci graphics card and not set to AGP.

Ok. I just bought a ATI all in wonder 9600. This is AGP. I put that in, it wont work. I put in PCI it wont work. My moniter only has one option. Its blue 3 rows by 5 columns. How come my monitor isnt showing anything and where is the beeping sound supposed to come from?????

It should be comming from your computer. Error/POST beeps. Make sure your speaker is connected right(the internal one)

This is NOT a video problem, probably something you did wrong while building. Check to be sure everything else is seated proporly and such

Stupid mistakes

I figured out wat the problem was. I the memory into the wrong slots. Ur supposed to put them in 1 and 3 not 1 and 2. All i had to do was switch the memoroy around but i spent hours and hours screwin around with 3 monitors, 5 video cards. Feel like i wasted my day. pretty much did. Memory was even color coded. I am just shocked at my stupidity....

Lol

We all make silly mistakes. Why could you not put the memory into slot 1 and 2? Are they different sizes? You should have been able to do so and have them run in dual channel. Anyway...glad to hear you solved the problem.

JAN :D
